Water Treatment Plants
Reverse osmosis, UV disinfection and full water treatment infrastructure for communities, health facilities and industrial water users across Africa.
400 million Africans lack access to safely managed drinking water.
Monitoring alone cannot produce safe drinking water when source water quality is poor. Where dissolved contaminants, fluoride, nitrate or microbiological contamination exceed WHO guidelines, treatment is required before the water is safe to distribute. Jos•Hansen designs and supplies reverse osmosis, UV disinfection and chlorination systems from 500 litres per hour for rural health facilities to 50,000 litres per hour for urban utilities, with every system design beginning from a source water quality analysis.

RO removes 99%
Reverse osmosis membranes remove dissolved salts, heavy metals, fluoride, nitrate, arsenic and microbiological contaminants to below WHO drinking water guideline concentrations from sources that conventional treatment cannot clean.
UV kills pathogens
Ultraviolet disinfection destroys bacteria, viruses and protozoa including chlorine-resistant Cryptosporidium and Giardia at doses achievable in a single pass, without adding chemicals that create taste or odour.
Remote monitoring
All Jos•Hansen treatment systems include remote monitoring of flow rate, pressure, membrane performance, UV lamp intensity and treated water quality, with automated alerts for any parameter outside operating limits.
Reverse osmosis eliminates dissolved contaminants from any source water.
Every Jos•Hansen treatment system design begins with a source water quality analysis covering pH, conductivity, TDS, turbidity, hardness, iron, manganese, fluoride, nitrate, arsenic and microbial indicators. The treatment process train is specified against the analysis results, ensuring each treatment stage targets the specific contaminants present rather than a generic configuration. Systems designed without source water analysis frequently fail against unforeseen contaminants or are over-engineered for clean sources, wasting capital expenditure.

UV disinfection provides pathogen kill without chemical residue.
Medium-pressure UV lamps operating at 254 nm deliver germicidal doses of 40 mJ/cm² or greater for 4-log inactivation of bacteria and viruses and 3-log inactivation of Cryptosporidium and Giardia, meeting WHO disinfection targets without chlorine dosing. UV systems are sized to the specific flow rate and UV transmittance of the water being treated, with online UV intensity monitoring and dose verification to confirm that the required germicidal dose is being delivered at all flow rates. UV disinfection is particularly cost-effective for rural boreholes and springs where chemical dosing infrastructure and chemical supply chains are not reliable.

Treatment systems are designed from source water analysis, not generic specifications.
Every Jos•Hansen treatment system design begins with a comprehensive source water quality analysis covering at minimum pH, conductivity, TDS, turbidity, hardness, iron, manganese, fluoride, nitrate, arsenic, microbial indicators and any site-specific contaminants of concern. The treatment process train is specified against the analysis results, ensuring that each treatment stage is correctly designed for the specific contaminants present. Systems designed without source water analysis frequently fail against unforeseen contaminants or are over-engineered for clean sources, wasting capital expenditure.

Why Water.
Source water-matched design
Every system is designed from a source water quality analysis, ensuring the treatment process eliminates the specific contaminants present rather than a generic specification.
No chemical taste or odour
UV disinfection and RO produce water free from chlorine residue taste, eliminating consumer resistance that undermines adoption of chlorination systems.
Solar-compatible systems
Treatment systems can be configured with solar power and battery storage for off-grid rural health facilities and community water points.
Full turnkey delivery
Jos•Hansen manages site assessment, system design, procurement, installation, commissioning, operator training and annual maintenance for all treatment systems.
