Zoetis

Antiparasitic & Deworming Agents

Broad-spectrum macrocyclic lactones and benzimidazoles for internal and external parasite control in livestock.

Sixty percent of African cattle silently carry internal parasites, suppressing immunity and cutting productivity without a single clinical sign.

Internal parasites silently suppress immunity and cut livestock productivity, often without clinical signs until the burden becomes critical. Zoetis Dectomax, Cydectin and Valbazen cover the full spectrum of internal parasites and key ectoparasites in a single injection or oral treatment. Jos•Hansen supplies these products with rotational deworming protocols designed to slow anthelmintic resistance over the long term.

Antiparasitic & Deworming Agents

Full-spectrum coverage

Dectomax and Cydectin macrocyclic lactones cover gastrointestinal nematodes, lungworms, eyeworms, cattle grubs and mange mites in a single dose. Valbazen benzimidazole adds liver fluke and tapeworm coverage not addressed by macrocyclic lactones alone.

Resistance management

Anthelmintic resistance is the single greatest threat to long-term parasite control. Jos•Hansen designs rotational programmes alternating macrocyclic lactones, benzimidazoles and levamisole with refugia management, slowing resistance development and preserving drug efficacy.

Measurable ROI

Strategic deworming returns 3-4 times the programme cost in improved live weight gain, increased milk yield and reduced mortality. Payback is demonstrable within a single production cycle on both extensive and intensive East African farms.

Parasites consume 15-25% of livestock productivity silently.

A 10% internal parasite burden reduces daily weight gain by up to 20% and suppresses the immune response to vaccination. A poorly dewormed herd also gets reduced benefit from FMD, PPR and brucellosis programmes. Ticks transmit East Coast Fever, Anaplasmosis and Babesiosis, each capable of significant mortality. The economic case for parasite control is not about treating sick animals. It is about recovering productivity that parasites silently consume.

Two complementary drug classes, one complete programme.

Dectomax (doramectin 10 mg/ml) is Zoetis's injectable macrocyclic lactone, long-acting and single-dose against roundworms, lungworms and mange mites. Cydectin (moxidectin) provides an alternative macrocyclic lactone with a different half-life, enabling a true second-rotation class. Valbazen (albendazole 10%) covers liver fluke at all stages and adds tapeworm control as a third rotation class.

Jos•Hansen manages product, protocol and monitoring.

Beyond supply, Jos•Hansen designs herd-level parasite control protocols: faecal egg count monitoring before treatment, strategic timing aligned to seasonal transmission peaks in East Africa, refugia management and post-treatment efficacy checks. We work with farm managers, veterinarians and government extension officers to document productivity improvement across every production system we serve.

Why Antiparasitic.

Full-spectrum coverage

Macrocyclic lactone plus benzimidazole combination covers every major internal parasite class, nematodes, flukes and tapeworms, plus key ectoparasites, in a single programme.

Resistance management

Rotational deworming with faecal egg count monitoring and refugia management, designed to slow anthelmintic resistance over years.

Food safety compliance

Withdrawal periods documented per product and species, enabling producers to meet market, export and dairy processor food safety requirements.

End-to-end programme support

Burden assessment, treatment timing, active ingredient rotation and post-treatment efficacy monitoring. Jos•Hansen manages the programme, not just the supply.
