Veterinary Haematology Analyser
Automated CBC and 5-part differential for veterinary clinical laboratories and large animal diagnostic centres across East Africa.
A complete blood count in a sick animal is not optional information. It is the triage that determines whether the problem is infectious, inflammatory or haematological.
HORIBA Medical's veterinary haematology analysers deliver 5-part differential CBC in species-specific modes for cattle, sheep, goats, dogs, cats and horses. Results in under 3 minutes from 12 µL whole blood. Jos•Hansen supplies and services these analysers with reagent standing orders, preventive maintenance and ISO 17025-aligned calibration protocols across East Africa.

Vet-specific modes
Human haematology analysers give misleading results on veterinary samples because cell size, morphology and count distributions differ across species. HORIBA's veterinary modes use species-appropriate flagging thresholds and reference intervals, reducing false alarms and correctly flagging pathological changes for each target species.
5-part differential
A 5-part leukocyte differential distinguishes neutrophilia from lymphocytosis, identifies eosinophilia in parasitic disease and flags left shifts in acute bacterial infection. Manual differentials in most East African veterinary labs take 30-45 minutes. Automated differential takes 3 minutes.
Reagent supply managed
A haematology analyser without reagents is a paperweight. Jos•Hansen manages the HORIBA reagent supply chain from importation through in-country distribution, maintaining buffer stock and managing standing order replenishment on a rolling basis.
Haematology drives the livestock differential diagnosis.
Acute bacterial septicaemia, FMD, East Coast Fever, trypanosomiasis and haemoparasitism all present with fever and reduced production, but their haematological profiles are distinct. Neutrophilia with left shift points to bacterial sepsis. Lymphocytosis points to viral infection. Thrombocytopenia with normocytic anaemia points to haemoparasitism. Without the CBC, treatment is empirical. With it, targeted.

Urban companion animal practice demands in-house haematology.
The companion animal market in Nairobi, Kampala and Dar es Salaam is growing rapidly. Pet owners expect in-house haematology on the same visit as the consultation. A veterinary haematology analyser processing 40-60 samples per hour across dogs, cats and exotic species is the minimum standard for a modern small animal practice. The HORIBA Yumizen H500V handles the full case mix without manual species-mode switching.

ISO 17025 calibration support for diagnostic laboratories.
Government veterinary diagnostic laboratories and university teaching hospitals in East Africa are increasingly required to demonstrate ISO 17025 accreditation for haematology results. Jos•Hansen provides calibration traceability documentation, external quality assurance programme enrolment support and the reference material supply required for accreditation applications.
