PPR Vaccine (Pestivac)
Live attenuated PPR vaccine delivering three years of herd immunity from a single dose.
PPR kills up to 90% of infected animals in naive populations. Eradication is WHO and FAO's top animal health priority.
PPR is the most destructive disease affecting sheep and goats globally, killing up to 90% of infected animals in naive populations. Ceva Santé Animale's Pestivac uses the Nigeria 75/1 strain, the FAO and AU-IBAR standard, delivering three years of immunity from a single dose. Jos•Hansen supplies Pestivac to government veterinary departments and pastoral programmes across East Africa with full cold chain and campaign support.

Single dose, three years
One subcutaneous injection confers minimum three years of protection against all four PPRV lineages. No booster required during this period, simplifying campaign planning and reducing cost per animal protected.
VVM thermostable
Pestivac is validated against vaccine vial monitor performance standards, retaining potency under controlled temperature excursions that would compromise less stable biologics. Critical for last-mile delivery in remote pastoral areas.
GPRP aligned
Nigeria 75/1 strain is the internationally standardised PPR vaccine strain used in the Global PPR Eradication Programme. Every dose supplied by Jos•Hansen contributes to measurable regional eradication targets.
PPR is a total loss event for pastoral households.
PPR kills 70-90% of infected animals in naive small ruminant populations. It spreads by direct contact and respiratory aerosol, causing severe pneumonia, bloody diarrhoea and oral lesions with no effective treatment once clinical. For East Africa's pastoral communities, where goats and sheep are primary household income, a single outbreak erases everything. Vaccination is the only effective control measure at population scale.

Nigeria 75/1 strain: the global eradication standard.
Pestivac contains the Nigeria 75/1 PPR vaccine strain at a titre of at least 10 cubed TCID50 per dose. The lyophilised formulation is reconstituted with diluent and administered subcutaneously at 1 ml per animal. It protects against all four PPRV lineages globally, including the three circulating in East and Southern Africa. A single dose per three-year interval makes it the most cost-efficient PPR protection available.

Jos•Hansen integrates PPR into government eradication programmes.
We supply Pestivac to national veterinary departments under the AU-IBAR and FAO GPRP framework. Beyond supply, Jos•Hansen trains field vaccination teams, designs ring-vaccination protocols for outbreak containment, and provides post-campaign seromonitoring to verify coverage against eradication targets.

Why PPR.
Three-year single-dose immunity
One injection per three years per animal. The simplest vaccination schedule available for any major livestock disease in East Africa.
Thermostable, VVM-validated
Retains potency under short temperature excursions inevitable in pastoral field settings. Validated against vial monitor performance standards.
GPRP eradication aligned
Nigeria 75/1 strain aligns with FAO/AU-IBAR Global PPR Eradication Programme targets. Every dose is a measurable contribution to regional eradication.
Outbreak response design
Jos•Hansen designs ring-vaccination protocols for PPR outbreak containment and provides seromonitoring to verify programme coverage.
