LED Surgical Lighting

Shadow-free, colour-accurate intraoperative illumination at 160,000 lux.

LED Surgical Lighting — In theatre

A surgeon who cannot see clearly cannot operate safely.

Brandon Medical LED surgical lights deliver up to 160,000 lux of shadow-free, colour-accurate illumination across all theatre environments — from general surgery and orthopaedics to neurosurgery and cardiothoracic procedures. The multi-point LED array eliminates the satellite shadows that conventional single-source lights create, providing an unobstructed view of the entire operative field. At 4,000–4,500 K colour temperature, Brandon lights render tissue colour accurately — a clinically significant difference when distinguishing healthy tissue from pathology. With a rated lifespan of 50,000+ hours, the LED light source never needs replacing, eliminating the recurring cost and theatre downtime associated with conventional halogen or xenon lamps.

LED Surgical Lighting

Illuminance

160,000 lux at the surgical field — sufficient to illuminate deep cavities, minimally invasive retracted wounds and complex anatomical structures without supplementary lighting.

Longevity

50,000+ hours of rated LED operating life. A theatre running two sessions per day would reach this at approximately 68 years of operation — eliminating lamp replacement costs and unplanned theatre downtime entirely.

Colour fidelity

4,000–4,500 K colour temperature accurately renders tissue colour — enabling surgeons to visually differentiate between muscle, fat, fascia, nerve and vascular structures during the procedure.

160,000 lux — the light that eliminates intraoperative shadows.

Conventional single-source surgical lights create satellite shadows wherever the surgeon's hands, instruments or retractors block the beam. Brandon Medical's multi-point LED array illuminates from multiple directions simultaneously — achieving a shadow-free field that persists regardless of hand or instrument position. At up to 160,000 lux, the system also provides sufficient depth penetration for laparotomy and deep thoracic or pelvic procedures without repositioning.

50,000+ hours — surgical lighting that never needs a bulb.

Conventional halogen surgical lamp housings require bulb replacement after approximately 1,000 operating hours. A busy theatre running two sessions per day reaches this threshold in under two years — incurring recurring replacement cost, scheduled maintenance downtime and the risk of mid-procedure lamp failure. Brandon LED systems are rated for 50,000+ hours with no bulb replacement required. The capital cost difference between LED and conventional is recovered within the first two to three years of operation.

Optional integrated HD camera for teaching and documentation.

Brandon Medical ceiling lights are available with integrated HD surgical cameras — mounted in the light head for unobstructed overhead capture of the operative field. The camera feeds directly to recording systems, display screens for observers, and videoconferencing platforms for remote surgical teaching. Jos•Hansen configures the full camera and display network as part of the theatre installation — enabling medical education programmes without separate camera equipment or third-party contractors.

Why LED.

Shadow-free field

Multi-point LED array illuminates from multiple directions — eliminating satellite shadows regardless of hand, instrument or retractor position.

Zero lamp replacement

50,000+ hour LED lifespan eliminates bulb procurement, replacement scheduling and mid-procedure lamp failure risk entirely.

Colour-accurate rendering

4,000–4,500 K colour temperature distinguishes tissue types accurately — a clinically meaningful difference for all surgical disciplines.
