Mindray's portable veterinary ultrasound delivers real-time B-mode and Doppler imaging in a rugged, battery-powered unit built for field conditions. Pregnancy scan cattle from day 25, assess ovarian activity, diagnose uterine pathology and evaluate abdominal organs without a fixed clinic. Jos•Hansen supplies units with linear and convex probes, field carry cases and veterinary training across East and West Africa.

IP54-rated, battery-powered and operational in direct sunlight. A full charge delivers 3-4 hours of continuous scanning. The carry case protects the probe and screen in transit across rough terrain.
Day-25 detection
Reliable pregnancy detection from day 25 in cattle allows rapid separation of open cows and targeted repeat breeding. The same unit scans sheep from day 20 and goats from day 18, covering the full small ruminant spectrum.
Multi-organ scanning
Beyond reproduction, the unit assesses rumen motility, liver echogenicity, kidney morphology and pleural effusion, supporting differential diagnosis without sending animals off-farm to a referral facility.
Calving interval drives dairy profitability.
East African dairy herds average a calving interval of 18-24 months against a target of 12-13 months. The primary cause is undetected early embryonic loss and delayed re-breeding. Portable ultrasound shortens the detection window and allows early intervention on repeat-breeders. On a 200-cow dairy, cutting the calving interval by 60 days represents significant additional milk revenue per year.
Farm-gate diagnosis replaces the referral trip.
Most East African livestock practice is field-based, with no fixed clinic infrastructure. Portable ultrasound brings diagnostic capability directly to the farm: abdominal assessment in a suspected hardware disease case, pleural fluid evaluation in a respiratory outbreak, or testicular parenchyma evaluation in a breeding soundness exam. What previously required a 100 km referral trip takes 15 minutes on-farm.

Ultrasound interpretation is a learned skill. Jos•Hansen provides hands-on scanning training with live animals at delivery, a structured image library for common findings and remote support in the first months of use.
